The History of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade

The 38th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade is organized by the Zeta Sigma Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. This fraternity is the oldest African American fraternity in the United States and was founded in 1906 as a way for African American students to have a voice in the Greek system in the college world.

The seven courageous men who founded the fraternity at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY saw it as a way to develop a bond of brotherhood among African descendants in the country. In fact, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a brother in the fraternity. Be sure to join the celebration on Sunday, January 14 at 2:00 PM to see the continued legacy of this remarkable institution and a celebration of one of the most courageous men in the history of the United States!
